Another New Year's Eve has passed,
Another year is gone...
I know that each may be my last...
Yet I live on and on.

But what is living? I'd like to know-
Is it merely drawing breath?
If that's the case, I know a few-
Who'd gladly welcome death.

Life is for the newly weds,
When everything's a dream.
And every future seems so bright,
With scintillating beam.

And life is when you're at the top-
The Championship in view.
And death is when you're looking back,
With nothing left to do.

A few bad breaks, unlucky draws,
A broken bone or two-
And men who thought that they were iron,
Must realize they're through.

An argument; harsh, hasty words-
And love just seems to die.
And sadly two, once so in love-
Grow weary, cease to try.

And yet the years, they come and go.
And flesh dissolves to bone.
Babes are born, and old men die,
But life goes on and on.
