(Inspired by 2 weeks of school break)

Slipping On the Morning

silhouettes begin to form
along horizon’s edge
a sign that confirms the morn’s
a mite above the hedge

the morning hours are lingering
within commence of day
arise, oh, Sleeper, from your bed
join the light in work and play

sawing wood with snoring sounds
brings pleasure to only you
the minutes leap, the hours bound
there’s much, too much to do

reclining in your favorite chair
comics, crossword, news
running fingers through your hair
until the strike of noon

taking time to rest
within dawn’s rosy glow
acknowledging this leisure time
these given hours of slow

remember, always, silhouettes
come embodied in the light
a contrast for the day ahead
that’spassed beyond the night

then tuck the dark in nether world
to save for sleeper’s need
relish all the day’s unfurled
and provided for each deed

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
