An empty page stared back at me Glancing towards the easel Mind blank strangely unoccupied Hands wanting searching for inspiration Ticking so vivid time moving past How frustrated an artist can sometimes become Growing pressure on me for a perfect masterpiece Three days untill the deadline Black canvas no thoughts not even a incling I am so tired staring hours days weeks I could scream but that would be no help Work brain work Tell me what to see in my brush Open my creativity show me how to be like before Why do you choose now to corrupt my thinking The most important weeks Oh why wont you work My fingers are eager my brushes ready But you no no your not ready your annoying You fail me when I need you most I will not forgive you if I lose this I can not give up By morn I must produce So work brain work Show me power |

I am taking your poem literally instead of figuratively. I enjoy being creative when it comes spontaneously as opposed to being forced into creativity, i.e. doing commissions. The more pressure that is upon us with deadlines and expectations, the more it can stifle an artist's free flow of thoughts and images. Try putting the expectations out of your mind, and imagine that you are just painting for yourself. Try to relax and not put so much pressure on yourself to produce a masterpiece. Just start painting ~ anything! Start the process and you may be surprised at what you will be able to come up with! EA |
