You're older now, but I still see you painted, standing in the sun a totem pole of flesh and bone-- and I remember your tenderness. A portrait emerges from the earth across your trunk, carves parts of your face not kissed. Passion is scribed from twilight gold, bringing back the laughter we shared, and words, unwritten, unworthy of a moon we never hung. Darling, our hours were delicate; the greenest hills once bowed at the waist and storms settled into waves between us. I sit here, alone, reading Loveliest of trees imagining your breath across my neck knowing that once your strength held me together-- and beneath you, my silhouette turned until their was no colour found that would design the heaviness lifted from my heart. These do sound like delicate hours, both in the past and that present golden twilight where quiet reflection prompts the mixed blessing of peaceful memories and sorrow in unkissed faces and unwritten words. |
