She slipped beside him
Beneath quilts and satin sheets
And whispered her fears

He gathered her in
Listening to words in tears
Flowing from gone years

They lay beneath sheets
And spoke of another when
With the softest of touch

She woke to sorrow
There beneath quilt and satin
In an empty bed

A new tomorrow
Had become another day
Filled by yesterday

Was it just light night
Or half a century
Real or memory

She walks in new light
Adapting into the real
Now able to feel

Each night he awaits
Whispering soft through the years
Calming the day’s fears

Gloom

Professor,
A very tender and supportive poem; you make the reader feel as thought she is there.
Thank you for sharing your heart.  It is quite beautiful.

So much said here, wonderful.

and I am haunted
by my illicit exquisite dream
but I can't really wake up
so I just drift in between

Miscellanea is right....you have a tender side amid that gloom, and it's good to see.
