In My Tree

No one I think is in my tree
they just can't see me
for who I am
I'd like to think I'm far too advanced
I know I just wasn't made for these times
I hunger for the breath of a vintage rhyme
breathing into my heart
blossoming in my art
you can read my emotions in these words
you can understand me looking backwards
to another decade I can't recall
wish I'd seen it all
wish I could see
who can be in my tree

No one I think is on my wavelength
looking over my soulder with angst
of who I am
dusting off precious melodies in the sea sand
I know I'm waiting for the day
when all my dreams have come to play
in my life, sweet life
in my cry, sweet cry
for those things left buried in the past
those things I left behind me never to last
but I wish those memories well
wish I could tell
my wishes to be
visiting me at night in my tree

No, I don't think I can live forever
among these leaves feeling clever
for who I am
I know I need to touch and feel the earth
be with the here and now, for whatever it's worth
to be worth something to me
I know, I can see
I've got my own reality to live down there
I've got family, friends and love needing care
but for just a little longer
let me sing my song
for the feelings I set free
on the wind blowing through my tree
