I give you the edges of my empathy
to temper your judgments of my weaknesses
and the lining from all my work-a-day clothes
for you to see through to my frailty.

I give you extensions of my gentleness
to soften the outlook of your manliness
and a map of my intuitive paths
so you need never ask for directions.

I give you a part of the birthing process
for you to feel how pain goes away
and a drop on your tongue of mother’s milk
for you to swallow the sweetness of growth.

I give you full sight of my nakedness,
a corner of my insightful eyes,
and my smiles, my sighs, my whispered secrets,
as a protective device for your openness.

I give you the power of my healing hands
to stimulate faith and encourage belief
and my heart to pump the sorrows of past
beyond the reach of your memory.

I give you the essence of a woman’s love
to perfume your home and lighten your load
and my soul as a symbol of faith and trust
in all that you are, were, and can be.

All this I would give … if heaven were real!
