Moved from a shack to a barn

The silkworm
Valued by Man
only for his internal alchemy

By bird and lizard merely
for his nutritional chemistry

And naturally, most selfishly
other silkworms

The silkworm
whose secrets were kept
jealously and on pain of death
by Chinese royalty

Until, of course, a princess
for love or money
or a certain girlish urge
to piss off her parents

Smuggled them west
where they have toiled ever since

Producing, I believe
enough thread to reach and encircle
Mars, and his eternal companions
Phobos and Deimos

Fabric, for musket patches
clean and most accurate

Cloth, from which, generations later
warriors would hang suspended
and fall gently into Hell

Enough thread, I know
to reach and enthrall Venus
a cool breeze captured

And made just substantial enough
to robe, and yet, not warm
to cover, but not conceal

Silk, that would catch
and drag at the rough places
here, on my hands and

With a certain girl’s urging
slip from her hips

The worm wears silk now?   Yes, Ed that was truly an amazing piece of work, and the last little bit was truly fine silk.

Ed,

I do love what you weave with the silk of your words.

Ed,  I am really enjoying reading you.  You
could write an editorial...and something
says to me you would do a darn fine job of
it too....

Ed,

Another great write.  I always enjoy your writes.  They are just what I need to read sometimes.  You are brilliant...brilliant...brilliant.  That's the only word that comes to mind.

Ed....one of my favorite lessons as a teacher was the making of a silkworm.  Really enjoyed this!

(chuckling)

well ed, for one thing..I could learn to keep my themes and images more concise and concentrated.. I could learn a bit about how to breathe when you write..letting the lines fall at a different pace..

I'd say this hack could learn a good deal reading you....
