Thoughts meander it seems in a curious way, where a nomad might roam given chance to be free. Through the passage of years, overshadowed by gray, one more page from a book of what was, formerly. In the distance from us, he appears rather small, quite apart from this life, in his manner and clothes. An illusion perhaps, that we see him at all on his way to wherever the gypsy wind blows. Taking into account all the battles been waged in the war against time, that no one ever wins. From all outward appearances, still, he's not aged, one can only imagine the changes within. An oasis of dreams, this mirage, I suppose, either way's all the same, when the gypsy wind blows. |

I know this breeze--it's like the signal for Mary Poppins to arrive, yes? just a twitch of an unknown... I confess tho, this time your meter confused me, but it works with the theme--kind of like that weird wind that changes directions, tantalizingly different, just a hint of change. (I'll take it as a good portent.) Enjoyed, Doc. |

I keep reading this... I have a problem with meter. I can read it one way and then another, so doc, I thought I'd ask you. I happen to learn things by "ear"...so? if you know of a site that gives examples of meter and the stresses thereof in audio, I would sure appreciate the tip! thanx in advance with fingers crossed... |

serenity, And the last shall be first... No, I do not know of such a site. As far as the meter in this poem, it is anapestic with four feet to the line. Two un-accentd syllables followed by an accentd syllable. "Thoughts meANder it SEEMS in a CURious WAY" By arranging the words in such a way that the normally stressed syllables fall in place, the meter is established and carries throughout the piece. When I first started writing, I was unaware how important this simple thing is to having your work sound when read aloud. Because it reflects our normal speech patterns, the words seem to roll off the tongue effortlessly. In free-verse, I wouldn't think it would be as important, but, when using the more established forms, I believe it really adds to the piece. Hope this is of some help. Thanks, Doc |

Aren't you in enough trouble already? Taking over the trone in the Workshop, spitball fights, and now you've turned to a perfect Anna Pest? Be careful! Soon you'll turn into Ab Normal! Pretty darn good write Doc! What pills are you on? |

Justin Genius, Well now, I guess that would be my middle name (at least the only one that's fit to print). But, speaking of spit-balls, where's your offering for the royal throne? Moose the Magnificent Supreme Ruler of all He Surveys, Ab-normal, And-a-Pest, Professor of Projectiles, Master of Mastication, Defender of the Realm, and, quite possibly, Modest( to boot!) |

iliana, Thank you, it does give me pleasure knowing that people take time to reply, even when I so seldom do. If I could only stretch the hours a little more, I'd correct this short-coming of mine. Doc Divinechild22, Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked. Doc Serenity, Thanks, I've replyed in depth below. Doc Nightshade, Thank you, every once in a while things just fall into place( as opposed to all over the place )I'm glad you liked. Doc Midnitesun, After reading some of your pieces, I think you do. Thanks, Doc Igina, Thank you, While I haven't read any of your posts yet, I will. I may not always comment, but, I do read alot. Doc |
