Between a laugh and a tear...

...a repost for my Dad, cause I'm still missing him!

A Nod And A Wink

Time goes by
Sways to and fro
You have to wonder
As we come and go
Is it ever enough?
Just to say I know

We've too much to say
With just a nod and a wink
All too easy to loose
Gone in less than a blink
Asking then, what would it take?
To make us all just stop and think

And now throughout the years
The tears they'll come all too often
For a love that's lost is too long gone
Leaving stolen moments as memories soften
And as life goes on one can only hope
That the lesson learned is not forgotten

....extraxt from Like A Rock...by Bob Seger

My hands were steady
My eyes were clear and bright
My walk had purpose
My steps were quick and light
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like a rock

Like a rock, I was strong as I could be
Like a rock, nothin' ever got to me
Like a rock, I was something to see
Like a rock

And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams

Twenty years now
Where'd they go?
twenty years
I don't know
sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they've gone

And sometimes late at night
When I'm bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin' a ghostly white
And I recall
recall

Like a rock. standin' arrow straight
Like a rock, chargin' from the gate
Like a rock, carryin' the weight
Like a rock

Touching.  I understand the missing.

Just tonight I was having a conversation with my sister about our father.  Like a rock he was, and beared the weight of it all.  I was so much younger then, and have to wonder if I conveyed all the love and admiration I have to this day.  If he could do it, I can do it, God forbid I ever let him down!!!!

Truly a heartfelt write, thank you for sharing the memories,  EagleOne.

Never knew my dad...but I miss my grandpa like this...a soft ache right behind the heart that never truly goes away...an emptiness where his heart once rested...and I miss you Eddie...good seeing you out of those shadows

You remind me of one of my favorite songs today, Eddie...that brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it:

Dance With My Father,
by Luther Vandross
Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then

Spin me around 'til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved

If I could get another chance,
another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again

When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me

If I could steal one final glance,
one final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again

Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don't do it usually

But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again

Every night I fall asleep
and this is all I ever dream

It will be 7 years next month...and it never gets easier
