Some Relationships Tax This ache is deep it reaches from one end to the other of each extremity, creating lethargy, doomed purpose, severed longing. When once I owned an ache to reach, to grasp, to hold; now I own an ache to refrain. Letting go- a hoped for reward, a freedom, alas, its trophy does not materialize. My sinew pulsates a metronome of pain, empathizing with my fading strength, my fraying grip. The reality of the cause adds to the ache in my heart; a result of a dirty relationship clung to, too long. The only consolation-- my flower bed is almost weed-free now...well, on the surface. But then, the surface doesn’t always divulge the full truth. ©July 16, 2004 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

LOL, I absolutely loved that 'dirty' relationships line. |

Thanks for the hug, Sunshine. The cause is there in the 2nd and 3rd stanzas from the end. Thanks, Midnitesun, I think you got it. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

I see the comment about the title, not sure it fits, but the piece itself is well done. I especially like the analogy of what can lie beneath the surface of a well tended bed. Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |
