The Thirst of Addiction Through the corridors of despair And memories fraught with pain Comes the soothing touch of oblivion As the needle enters the vein Gone is all of pain and sorrow And so is all affliction But silently in its wake, comes The unquenchable thirst of addiction. And the quest for the eternal drink For this thirst to appease Only fuels the raging desire For a hunger that will not cease Till in the end it matters not Whether it’s a want or need Because life seeks oblivion itself Yet oblivion is elusive indeed. |

nodding... a warm welcome return to the "womb", aptly described my friend. Problem is tho, drugs not only block the pain, but also the joy. Great job with this, from yes, one who knows. |

Eagle and Serenity, Thank you very much for your comments. Appreciate it and glad you liked the poem. Serenity, I agree that drugs take away pain as well as joy...Well said...Wish I had used that in the poem... ) |

Nice writing...I have seen the desperation, as they realize that avoiding the pain does not take away the need to face it in the future...the existing pain and the new pain that comes from making the wrong choices...thank God that I don't have an addictive type personality...well perhaps for writing...James |
