My father was a carpenter; he worked hard all his life, To support his family, four children and a wife, Now Dad he didn’t talk too much, that was just his way, Up at dawn, then off to work, so went his every day, Then at six we’d hear his truck, a coming down the street, We knew it best that we go in, for it was time to eat, The family then would gather ‘round, at the supper table, Dad would wink at us then say, “Hello there Betty Grable,” Mom would p-shaw, then say to Dad, “Hush you blind old fool,” Then it was time for all us kids, to tell of our day at school, After eating Dad would go, to the living room to sit In his chair to watch TV, and maybe snooze a bit, Waiting for the news and weather, then it was off to bed With “goodnight” the only word, often that he said. Now I grew up and found a job, I started a new life, Out on my own, I found a girl, I wished she’d be my wife, I told my father of my goals, of what I hoped to be, And wondered if per chance he’d build a little house for me So I would have a home to take the woman I would wed, And raise a family of my own, of this to Dad I said. Dad sat there for a minute and did not say a word, Then he looked at me and spoke, and this is what I heard, “A house is nothing more than wood, it's two-by-fours and beams, A home is something so much more, it's love and hope and dreams.” That’s all he said as he got up, then he said “it’s time for bed.” Now we built that house together, and yes, I did get wed. Had three children of my own, and I go to work each day, I do not know there’s much to add, that’s all I have to say, Because it’s six o’clock, I'm heading home, yep, it’s time to eat, And besides the kids around the table, I’ve a movie star to greet [This message has been edited by Tim (10-19-2004 05:51 PM).] |

How sweet is this? Now this is what I'd calling living nostalgia. It gave me such a warm sense of security as I read. I very much enjoyed this Tim. thank you ![]() |

“A house is nothing more than wood, it's two-by-fours and beams, A home is something so much more, it's love and hope and dreams.” ~*~ We're kin? LOL...my father was a carpenter, too... and built the church he and Mom were wed in... and this, Sir, has been libraried, spotlighted, and will be sent to my brother, as well... I know he will enjoy it so much! |

You know Tim I watched a movie last night called, "My Life As A House" that was excellent, and actually spoke to similar wisdom in fact. I have lived both ways, in a house and a home, and I would take a home where family eats together, and actually lives together on a somewhat regular shcedule on a daily basis any day! Great message in this. |
