My brother told me stories of men escaping Indiana after a high school victory of beer bottles and seventy-nine cent meals in the back of a white hundred dollar van of going to the West Coast driving seventy-two hours straight reaching their perpetual freedom and finding cold waters and towering trees of bringing back photographic memories of the limitless spectrum of mauves drapped across the Nevada desert of the stinging nights spent chatting with lizards and scorching days spent battling dragons of staring up at the clouds and not being quite right and forgetting how the story goes of driving ninety miles to Key West speeding along a narrow bridge and not having enough cash to spend the night in a small pink motel of driving those same ninety miles back on the same bridge with disappointment and a curse for the Rich Man under his breath of coming home to a jailcell with a bottle of antidepressants in the glove compartment of tipping a bottle of whiskey into his mouth and off of the pier and jumping in after it to sip the last few drops of warm vunerability.
