Darkness brings his comfort
With the fall of night
Upon the hem of twilight
Sheltering the moon and stars
In his blanket of black velvet
Wrapping the harried soul
In his soothing hush of quiet
And bidding the heart to rest

Darkness whispers sweet love sounds
Upon the breeze that carries
The caress of his tenderness
As the shadows fall in kisses
Of cherished dew drop diamonds
Laying ‘cross the conscience
In gem colored bliss

Darkness enfolds the weary
Gifting sweet reprieve
From days too long exposed
Laying cross me upon Egyptian woven
As I am open to his presence
Wishing to be swallowed in his mist
To end the ache of lonliness

Darkness is a frequent concept that occupies a persons mind. I think you did a good job expressing it.

I can remember being in this place...it was indeed as you describe...thank you for such a view...through your words...wishing you great hope and care from those around you who love you....I've oft wondered if it is the way of things as with nature...to fully reap, we must experience to appreicate what we have.

Hugs and best wishes

Ah, LeeJ - it is truth that we must experience the dark to know the light - and sometimes - in the darkness, we find reprieve from over exposure - thanks for feeling with me, my friend -

Nancy - thank you so much - your warmth means a great deal to me - hugs dear lady -

  Susan

btw - it helps to have such loving interactions with other poets of such talent here - keeps the well springs flowing - and I admit to being muse inspired

Susan,
So well done. Thank you.

in delivery and in pace.. the piece does indeed seem to carry the reader to the same tempo as the thoughts..which for me, drift closer and closer just like shadows themselves, to devour perhaps the hope there is anything else but this..
and then... on a totally different level I can read it as a very sedcutive offering..to one or to some part of one who holds that darkness you crave...

nicely done ma'am..

Thank you, Larry - much appreciated

CPat - yes, there are layers here - and yes, there is seduction and love - but it is as it reads on the first level as well - thank you -

Susan,  you penned the mood of this poem
extremely well.  One can sense the longing
and the wait,  the silence and softness and
a mystical feel.  Good write..

Du Dunkelheit, aus der ich stamme

You, darkness, of whom I am born—

I love you more than the flame
that limits the world
to the circle it illumines
and excludes all the rest.

But the dark embraces everything:
shapes and shadows, creatures and me,
people, nations—just as they are.

It lets me imagine
a great presence stirring beside me.

I believe in the night.

Hey Susan. I would say this is a nice piece...but I would not give lonliness undue acclamation. However I will say this is a well crafted poem and I enjoyed the read. Your buddy - Kevin.

Susan,
I used to be afraid of the dark.  Now I hate to lose its comfort.  I couldn't help but read your response, imagining we've had the same feeling.

"it is truth that we must experience the dark to know the light - and sometimes - in the darkness, we find reprieve from over exposure"   Well put, Friend Susan!

Huan Yi - I love the verse of your reply - thank you

James - thank you for your kindness

Kevin - lonliness should not be heralded - but sometimes it must be written - and yet, sometimes too, the darkness is the comfort sought - thank you for your thoughtful reply -

jwesley - most kind, thank you so -

cathy - ah, a kindred spirit in understanding, thank you -

Hugs all -   Susan
