Listening to every heart

Memories & Mists

“Here, sit, play…”

and the invitation to explore
the keys of another’s
comfort zone was both
humbling and disconcerting…

it had been so long since I had played…

and I am not good in putting
fingers to music when practiced,
let alone stiff with time…

but I opened the bench top,
knowing I would find the books
of my own childhood,
and practiced a moment,
first with the right hand,
and then with the left…

but when I went to play,
there in Martie’s room,
I could not make my hands come
together…

and there was no braiding of tune
to fill the air
with notes we both knew so well…

I sat for a moment in the quiet,
Martie and Taylor elsewhere,
Remote singing quietly
in the main room; Needful meowing
outside; Precious inside at my feet…

but I was not alone with just animals.
I was not to be sitting here, I could feel that…

So I got up, put the book back,
walked into the main room where Remote
was singing, and saw then, the why of it;
her mother’s piano was for her mother, alone…
and the mist of love
would always surround only her…

When I returned home, at my own piano,
pulling out the same book as sits within
Martie’s piano bench,
my fingers needed no right hand left hand practice,
but came together, as I felt my own mother’s
hand push gently on my back,
that I should sit up straight, shoulders back,
fingers curled…
allowing the music to float upward…

we both have our Mists,
Martie and I…

And I cherish that we are surrounded
with our loving Memories…

Awwww, Karilea...how precious you are...and how lovely the memories.  I had thought that we would play a duet together...even chopsticks...maybe next time.  I'm sorry I missed that special moment.

The only possible answer...as I was certain you would learn in your time...is yes, I know. Thank you for saying so beautifully what I have never been able to express.

You must realize that each of us has a
place,  a moment much as your own...and
your words will inspire some to write of
their own as well.  But...will they be
capable of saying it as delicately and
beautifully as these?  Perhaps,  perhaps
not...

Such phrases you find, Karilea, where are they hiding when I look for them.  Well done!  KJ

Karilea, this brought back memories of my childhood. Today, I could only bang on the keys.

A wonderful, teary-eyed piece.

hugs, Marti

Sunshine,
In the year and a half I've been reading poetry anywhere, a poem has never given me goosebumps like this!  I could feel the spirits.  I, too, play piano and could imagine exactly what happened.  Other than water, piano is the medium most spiritual to me.  Probably even moreso than water.  I must keep this.

          Love and Hugs,
