Scent of the Moment

I had spent a lifetime gathering bouquets
of blue forget-me-nots and ebony if-onlys,
Arranging stems awkwardly in vases
stained with the color of fading sunsets.

I had gazed upon my desires,
never minding my moments,
but choosing rather to escape in a breath
of what could never smell as sweet.

It has taken time to get here...

Here,
to the other side.
Here,
to this place
where imagination,
with all its synthetic blush and perfume
could not compare to the
natural hue and fragance of reality.

Odd, though it seems now,
I had always walked
alongside the flower bed
one step ahead,
or one step behind.

And while it has taken miles
to reach this destination,
this place,
where each rose is admired for its purpose,
I shall neither regret nor dream of
what was not plucked along the way.
But rather, I shall breathe,
breathe in the scent of the moment,
each moment,
given unto the day.

I think I shall try doing exactly this...

Beautiful Patricia.

It's great to see you here.

Well I see you doing...What I try to do for me....With the words from a poet...
And a voice from a choir...And a melody... nothing else matters

I was taken back ... along a pathway that I walked with my mother ... hand in hand through memories in abound~

Thank you for the soft whispers of nostalgia~

Patricia, this is such a beautiful and well-written
poem. And, a lesson for all of us to learn.
Hope all is well with you and yours.
Hugs,
Ethel
