A week has passed while I hid in my hole.
The whole earth is mourning and has furied its scorn.
Even the ocean has unsettled its tears.
That greedy wind has turned tears to fears,
and swept salted water under my door.
Oak trees have fallen and thunder has roared
There’s nowhere to go to make tithe anymore.
No place to go to recover the pride
that I held in this place and held in my eyes.

This has been a fearsome and sad set of events,
and we feel so helpless watching it from here, Jo.

Sad write, I hear your heart.

Kahlil -- thanks for the post.  We were not personally affected by the storm.  I guess when I wrote this I was thinking of so many other people being affected by tragedy, and I was also thinking of September 11 and its aftermath.  *hugs*

illiana,
It all seems intimidating to me. The devastation and loss is so horrible. Hope all is well, peace.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

There is a sad beauty in the words of this poem...I wish you well and speedy recovery from the storm...

Nature has no beef with humans, it just acts on law and impulse of situations, it is not against or for you..

You have used your brain , to hide your body from its laws, and also to write down your feelings here in this poem...
You will be OK..

It was a relief to read in one of the replies you wrote, that you were not personally affected by the hurricanes and tornadoes. The devastation and utter horror that so many have encountered, saddens me deeply ~ both Mother Nature and 911.

A moving and sensitive write, lily jo.

Ah, Jo, 'tis true, it's sadness.  And my heart sorrows for those affected.  Yet in a way, guilty as this thought is, I am relieved it veered a bit to the east as it missed my Mother-'in'law and my husbands family who live merely blocks from the gulf.  What a weird mix, to be saddened and yet relieved.  I have stayed along that stretch of coast.  I fell in love with it there.  I pray for those who have been so tragically affected.

You have great heart.

Jo,
It's so difficult to understand what others have been going through.  We are just now getting the aftermath of rains in Ohio.  I try to think of the most violent storm we've had back here in the woods, one in which lightening struck a tree very near us, trying to remember the sense of fear I had, wishing the storm would stopping circling around us.  I know people have experienced far greater fear and devastation.  My prayers are with them.
I think your poem is excellently expressed.  It's good to see you writing again!

your empathy is astounding
the metaphorical language you used is exquisite

happy for you that you can look from inside safety

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

It has been a heavy, heavy month...both in remembering, and in the current tragedies and aftermath of so many storms, so close together.  It is also a blessing in disguise that so many have retained the goodness of their human spirit - hundreds of thousands of hands will be required to rebuild, retake, and transform their states once again...and they will.  Because where they live is where their parents' parents' parents' lived...it is in them to make it good again...

Isn't perseverance a wonderful thing?

A sad poem...hopefully the light of day will come soon...

Maybe even sooner.

Iliana,

A beautifully tragic write.  Great homage to those suffering.  You take all of us into their hearts, their fears, their despair, their lamentations.  Like you, I'm in the "Greatest Country in the United States" and was not affected but have been affected somewhat by what I see happening there.  They have been beaten to oblivion down there.  Thank God it wasn't here.  I was half expecting...and dreading some tornadoes if it made it up here and that isn't even a fraction of the chaos in Florida... or the places affected in 9/11 as you so eloquently explained in your later post.  I loved your poem and share in your sentiment about the suffering as of late.  My prayers will be a little longer moving forward.

Hi iliana. What a month it has been. Those poor people are just getting hammered. It really amazes me though how closely knit the American people are. I never really seen this pooling together of well wishes in Canada. Of course I was from a rather large city and never took the time to know the neighbours. Here I live in a small town of 400 people and I know just about everyone...and everyone knows me and where I live. Of course I own the big, red, 3 car detached garage and people know my house just by a description of the garage. (Snicker!) Anyway I love the poem. Well done and I pray for all those who have been hit by tragedy this month. Love and well wishes...Kevin.

When hammer and hammer hits your door
You kneel to say "No more, no more."
For us who watch this open sore,
We feel the impact down to our core.

Well said, Jo.
(I did think TX was out of harm's way.  Thanks for letting us know you are ok.)

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light
