Agat, Guam (June 27,2004) No electricity, no air conditioning, no refrigerator, no cold beer. When I wake up Tropical Storm Ting Ting will be at my door, or should I say the hotel door. We spent most of Sunday afternoon and into the evening with no electricity, no air conditioner, no fan, the storm winds and rain took care of that and know one knows how many days it will take to restore. The hotels emergency generator roared and sputtered for ten minutes and then it was no more, a valiant effort by the repair man came to no avail...(busted piston) The storm shudders (on storm side) are up now to keep the rain and winds out. The hotel staff placed blue towels on the window sills and the floors to soak up the water that already found its way in. With no air conditioner, the walls are dripping with humidity, everything is wet. In the afternoon I can leave the front door open for air circulation, in the evening I dare not for security from thieves and wild dogs or water buffalo. I write this late at night with my trusty flashlight; don't fail me now, I need you. I hear the constant roar of the winds and the rain hiting outside my shuttered window. The refrigerator is no longer working, I have no cooler, without electricity the beer is room temperature now. Plenty of canned goods and bottled water. They say the main force of the storm will hit us on the ocean side at 9:00 am in the morning, I prepare myself for bed and a good nights sleep? It's not so bad, the sheets and the pillow are dry. JamesLee June27 2004 Right after Tingting passed us and headed for Saipan it turned into a Typhoon. The storm was bad enough. |

It's not so bad, the sheets and the pillow are dry. hey James, these lines made me laugh. what a positive attitude to boot with an admittedly dismal travel experience |

Great slice of life writing! Thanks for sharing it. Guam is a tiny island, glad you made it through. |

Thank you kaile and icebox...I was a little concerned at the time...but fortunately it didn't develop into a typhoon until it passed us...still the electricity and water problems were a reminder that life is not always so convienant...James |
