And Life Goes On (For the babies of 9/11) The world, in shock, could not believe While I, in silence, softly grieved He and the child he’d helped conceive For life went on He just buried in the tomb I held his child, safe in my womb Though feared the future’s unknown gloom But life went on In the winter’s discontent While bitter memories left me spent Unnoticed, the days came and went And life went on Within my nest you, sheltered, grew My grief and joy shared by so few And I both loved and hated you As life went on You kicked; you made your presence known Part of us both, but yet your own Planted in love, in sorrow grown And life went on Till slowly my grief was replaced With dreams of how your tiny face Would look like his and mine both laced As life went on Then one day in springs warm morn Wailing, kicking, you were born Out of the past, the future torn And life goes on ...to think these babes are in their terrible twos and three years have past since our world was forever changed...let us never forget |

What a heartwrenching reality. So many things have changed. So many fatherless children and wives widowed. So many husbands widowed. A tragedy beyond comprehension. I cried many times over about that day. Remembering clearly when the towers fell. I thought it wasn't real as I woke from working nights to see it on the news as it was happening. Pictures before the even said what was happening - well at least I turned it on between updates, I reckon. I lamented for months I think it was, moving through all the stages of grief. However, the one phase that lingers still ...retribution, fuels my pride, my pen, and my support of my brothers-in-arms searching for that lunatic Osama and his cohorts. Beautiful writing that brought a tear to my eye that I thought had subsided for a while. Thanks for posting it. Kevin |

Every generation has a moment or two in time that they will never forget. This is not the first "never forget" in my life. Over my brief stint upon this earth, there have been a few...those of my age could count them as well... but I hope we never see another like this. Thank you, Ruth. |
