How easily you fade from me -

the silence striking, as
the angel of morning
wears faintly his dark shadow
on the window's awning,

and the receding meadows
suspend now without sonnets,
as the seasonal chorus labors
to sing reveille,

oh how you leave me love,
so easily;

your song ringing loud and shrill,
as it strains on its final notes,

and i can only pull tightly
the summer covers,

and pretend i hadn't noticed
the end is coming.

yes, but a new beginning arrives with the end, if we learn not to embrace the negative to long.

Bittersweet write and done very well.

Inky
I love the passion in this poem.....
Other poets have stirred that in me as well, but not many...the feelings are deep and uniquely human...But I do see it in some of the other animals...squirrels know, and so do bears, that the end (of something) is coming...birds fly away from it...but isn't it but a continuation? Nature knows it has arranged the seasons near perfect, and so they repeat....
Other Bards also knew this, and wrote it down...I am filing this poem besides this short one by one of them...as I believe they are cut from the same mold..

Fire and Ice (1920) Robert Frost

Ah, when to the heart of man
Was it ever less than a treason
To go with the drift of things,
To yield with a grace to reason,
And bow and accept the end
Of a love or a season?

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

Awake, my child
from the dark veil of your night.
Just above the cotton-stitched seam
of your sanctuary,

Rise, this morning . . .

Rise and embrace the palette, falling.

Lie down in their tears
as they cry with you.

Hailing from the sky, it seems . . .

They also feel your loss,
the leaves.

Even when first frost
scrapes his bony finger
upon your pane,
Close your eyes
until your chest heaves.
Spreading warmth -
shaking the chill from your bone.

Let your memory serve
as fuel to warm you,
and shake dandelion and marigold
from your golden tresses,

Sailing with the autumn breeze . . .

Hugs to you Michele

Lovely.  Tis sad, this sorrow of good-bye, for my soul sings in summer and I shall miss that sweet music.  Applauds for this wonderful expression of the change of seasons -
