For those of you who've been asking for a duet from us... and for those of you who haven't.

Indeed, we CAN meet special people online...

When I Wish I Had a Friend
by Ron Carnell & Nancy Ness

I tread through miles of long lost years
Through happenstance of meetings chance,
And wonder why close friends appeared
When most I craved a friendly glance.

A friend revealed is nere perchance.
Life’s trek of course Divine impend.
     Designs not met by happenstance;
Asunder though most days may wend.

My road is long, each step unclear,
From dimmest birth to final ends,
Through laughing voices, fallen tears,
I treasure most my closest friends.

In heartfelt bond of finest blend
From miles afar or whether near,
     To cherish ever-dearest friends
     Enduring comfort year to year.

Is life perhaps just length of years,
Assessed from birth to death’s entreat?
Should it be weighed in hopes and fears,
And measured just in metric feet?

Life’s first to final moments rend
     Comradery to quell our fears.
Best savor moments we may spend
As autumn falls and winter nears.

Or is there more to life than that,
Some shining marks along our way?
Of landmarks littered ‘long our path
And memories of where we stay?

Our paths shine brightly day to day
     Enlightening moments to revere.
     Each touched by friendship’s loving way;
     Sweet memories throughout the years.

I stand on edge of precipice,
Near journey’s final, fateful end,
To look into unknown abyss
And find I yet was blessed by friends.

Grandmother always said,

"You can't choose your relatives."

Isn't it wonderful that we can choose our
friends, and keep them ever-more?

How wonderful to see this duet!

Sunshine's response reminded me of another saying... friends are family you choose for yourself. *S* And what treasures they are...

This is a beautiful collaboration... irrefutable evidence you both know those blessings first hand! *S*

Well now, when does the next book get printed again?   I do believe we have our anchor poem now, don't we?  The entire poem was 1st class but two lines jumped out at me personally:

Should it be weighed in hopes and fears,
And measured just in metric feet?

Whew!  Good thing friendship isn't measured that way around here or I would not even be a "smidge" on the ruler of this poetic family.  We do indeed meet wonderful people on the Net that are certainly more than friends that assume a place in our heart lasting a lifetime.   Hey, didn't you meet moi? LOL

Thank you both for sharing the blessing of this friendship with us all.

Thanks for the kind words, all!

Interestingly, my portion of this poem was actually written nearly five years ago, but remained unfinished until Nan decided to pull it together into a "real" poem with her own contributions.

Oh, and Karen? This was posted under Nan's name, lest you would think your evil schemes had born fruit. I can, indeed, be seduced, but I sure wouldn't want you to think it was THAT easy.

Nan and Ron, this is wonderful. It's so great to read you both, but to see a duet is all the more inspiring as the words and sentiments hold such a true meaning in so many facets. What an excellent collaboration ... a lovely read to greet this morning.

Best wishes and big hugs to you both,

It's rare indeed to find someone you can just release with, hide nothing and act in no special way, knowing that person understands you and accepts you completely, just as you are. That's not just a friendship, it's a treasure.

Life has bestowed me glorious dreams
And God has offered all I need
Rewards have been the milky creams
That render gold from earthly deed

But now and then a soul has found
This heart where it would gently wend
And leave a footprint on the ground
That I could trace it now and then

When twilight shadows veil the blue
And I to heaven‘s door ascend
I will recall the one or two
That I could truly call a friend

There is no greater place by far
Through mazes where the foot has crept
Than that one door that stays ajar
Whose threshold waits your yearning step

And I must say, that these two friends
Have left their doors, a keyless port
Through which the soul is free to wend
And bask in depth of their accord

Thank you, dear poets, for your beautiful words.

Nan & Ron,
How appropriate that friendship should be penned by two! And I like the history of the poem. It makes it even more meaningful. Excellent.

Thank you Mysteria for bring this beautiful duet up. I still try to find time to read all Nan's poem. it will  take a while to get here.

This is a very Beautiful poem from two good friends. The poem itself spoke more. Ron's part was like "I am fortunate but why" Nan's part was more like answer and warmly comforting a hesitate  heart.  Very beautiful!! You two shall write more and more duets.
love both of you.
