The wind picks up
The sky turns pitch black
The surge of the ocean
Starts taking over the beaches

Palms trees uprooted
Power lines cracked in half
Street lights hang no more
As the wind does its damage

Cars driven by wind
Roofs flying through the air
Windows blown out
Buildings are no more

The storm keeps moving
The wind keeps on causing
Distruction in its wake
Tornadoes it is producing
Killing people in their way

Mobile homes are no more
Neither are the people who decided
To wait out the storm
Inside of them

The storm moves inland
Causing distruction in its path
And by early in the morning
It exits the east coast

It keeps moving
Causing distruction as in goes
Up the eastern coast
And back out to sea

So when you hear a
Hurricane is a-comin'
Take is suriously
And pack up and start a-runnin'

Cold hands means a warm heart

sadly, some did not heed the warnings, maybe believing 'it  won't happen to me'

and then some may have not had the finances or even an automobile at their disposal, to just pack up/pick up and leave

glad you and your loved ones made it through

passing shadows

Sadly,

I would probably have been one of them if I had lived there.  We had a nasty storm a couple months ago that produced a couple tornadoes a couple miles a away.  We had warnings to be in a "shelter" or "interior room".  I was in there with my family for about 10 minutes then decided it was too hot in there.  Power flicked on and off.  Giant tree limbs and one huge oaktree fell in front of the house.  The windows heaved with the changing pressures and yet I still watched the storm rage through the window.  A couple of days later I heard about the tornadoes.  I should have been in there with my family sweating it out.  I think I'm going to be the death of me if I insist on saying it won't happen to me.  Florida is a great attestation to that.  Thanks for sharing and reminding me of my own selfishness and foolish curiosity.  I hope all is well with you and your family there.

Warm regards,

Kevin
