Note:  My wife is a deeply confirmed quilter - and I've always wanted to write something around a quilt. Well, below is my first effort - hope you like it even if it's direction isn't what you may have wanted.  jimmy

To A Gentler Time

Backing up
trying to catch the past from behind
I run away from – to you –
knowing it’s come apart
the stitch that bound
the knot that held so firmly
broken – undone.

This quilt of us
love in patterned blocks
colors bright and bold
warm
soft
no longer enfolds.

Backing up
trying to catch the past from behind
I see its patchwork beauty fade
it’s batting
once so full and plush
slip away
as it’s binding comes undone.

Backing up
trying to catch the past from behind
the patterns that glowed with love when whole
are now just blocks and threads
dreams in a drawer
waiting to be born.

Backing up

Backing up –  to a gentler time.

You have patched together your poetic thoughts into a fine quilt of poetry!

May it keep you forever warm... Bed 2

Perhaps when all those patches are viewed from a greater distance, the overall effect is one of incredible warmth?

Wow, this is excellent.
