The Grim Reaper Is Visiting You never know when he will appear. His shadow casting across time and space. A tall stately figure with a flowing cape. In his slender hands, a staff, that has been bent with time and endless journeys. As I release my little dog into the yard.... I feel a presence. I gaze about the yard seeing not a sign of man or beast. A leaf flutters behind me- I say. “Hello. Who is there?” Only silence greets my listening ears- But I know there is something hidden upon my darkened porch. “Hello. Who is it?” An odor, pungent but sweet drifts my way. A gentle sigh as if someone is resting peacefully. A voice deep and soothing enters my mind. “Do not fear I am only visiting for a short while.” My breath is caught within my throat. As I gaze into the darkness not a soul do I see. I say in a quivering voice. “I know you....we have met before.” “Yes.” Is his quiet reply. “We met several years ago. I caressed your fevered brow and whispered tomorrow. But do not fear. I am here just resting from my endless travels. You see I have read of your quiet garden, your garden of tranquility. You even offered a hot cup of tea. May I have a cup of your delicious tea?” Into the house I fly thinking if he wants a cup of tea who am I to argue. As I hand him his tea....he gently brushes my trembling fingertips. “Thank you my dear. The air smells so fresh. The heavens are beautiful tonight. Don’t you think?” “Yes.” I squeak. His voice just above a whisper saying. “Ah! This tea is a delightful treat for this weary traveler. Just this spring I stopped and drew in the fragrance of your magnificent Magnolia and Evergreen.” Just at that moment my little dog begins to bark into the darkness........ a cat across the street. I tell her. “Quiet.” I turn to my weary guest, but only the wind is walking across my darkened porch. I strain my eyes to see, but no presence do I feel. As I quietly begin to close the door I see my teacup upon the table and I hear a gentle whisper - “Thank you my dear.” Love BonBon |

Wow Bonnie, that write touches the reader very deeply...bringing chills (though not unpleasant)...and certainly leaves a lasting thought in one's mind. |

Quite the story, I like it's feel, and yes, it's a little spooky too, but in a tingly smiling way Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |
