"The casualties were light." So was the morning sky outside my window. My favorite gourmet coffee was steaming hot. I ate my usual light breakfast, a blueberry granola bar with smoothe creamy yogurt. I sat quietly reading the morning news, waiting for the busy part of the day to kick into full gear. Back to the headlines, "the casualties were light" and I sighed with relief. A knock on the door, three faces grim blocked out the light. "The casualties were light, Ms... but your loved one was killed, by friendly fire." another death by euphemism "your loved one was killed by friendly fire" |

Linda, thanks. This was originally two separate posts, but somehow, they needed to be merged and re-posted. These euphemisms just don't seem to disappear, and truth in media doesn't appear to be any more available today than it was in years past. thanks for your reply, dear muted |

Ouch! This carries serious weight-- point well made and thank you for bringing this up. You've a great heart -- Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

Yes, this one does hit in the solar plexus, and in every fiber of my being...You depict the transparancy of this "meta language" poignantly and tear it wide open...~P |

Oh my gosh this one went deep into the soul...Your poems always make us look beyond ourselves to the realities that exist and that is a very good thing...**hugs** |

Thanks to each of you, as I know this wasn't an easy read. But there isn't anything easy or playful about death, from war or any other 'theatre' OK, that's another one I cannot stand theatre, theater.... Isn't that where I'm supposed to eat popcorn at the movies or listen to music? BTW, the title for this write was to originally have been: The rape of the English language. HMMM, but rape...is a whole other topic I'm careful about handling in the open forums, and it's a term that is overused, abused, mishandled and misunderstood already. |
