He told me, “Bluebirds forever.” “Remove the sparrows from wooden house Kill their babies using Strength, no maybes, That the beauty of the bluebird Will flourish beyond willow Clear the residents, Sweep clean the pine box floor, Make way for the color Of Royal Bluebird I implore. Dispose of the other. Prevent Extinction!” I did not clear the sparrow’s home Or kill their offspring; Instead let birds roam in freedom; No baby did I throw out with birdbath water Or sing the bluebird alma mater louder than another. “Ignore the chill of sparrows. Kill, if needed, kill! Bluebirds forever, I make it my ending will.” In his booth he sat With pamplets and his spiel, Protecting our nature, To one aspect mind sealed.” Walking near the vine fenced hill I see the pheasants, Shhhh… stand very still… Hear the whip-or-will, bob white Can you hear the robins’ trill? On the wire, are you inspired by sparrows in long row, then two by Two taking flight and teasing air? But where are the bluebirds? Mixed amongst the others having seen no show of human strength. |

No, I'm not trying to make you homesick! BTW, it was great to see you son and husband yesterday! I've been trying to think of something to write about for several days. No luck until I read yours about the bird. This brought back a visit with a bluebird enthusiast at the fair five or six years ago. He was so dedicated to the cause of saving Ohio's bluebirds from extinction. I agreed that something should be done, but his technique, I questioned. (I am reminded of wars when I think of this, and saddened. Why can't all the birds get along without overpowering one and other?) |

How can we weigh Whom shall go and whom shall stay, Shall we pick and choose Which will win or lose Or allow nature to have her way. Gloom |

Thanks, Ron for commenting. It was somewhat late when I wrote this, and I wondered if the two could be compared. I wasn't sure. You zoned down on my question well. Thanks again. Ms.E |

Professor, I enjoyed your response and have added my own to it: How can we weigh Gain or lose… Whom shall go and whom shall stay, not sons or daughters I will pray Shall we pick and choose read the Golden clues Which will win or lose Walk our feet within their shoes Or allow nature to have her way. Beware of human way ~~~~~~~~ Thank you for taking time to respond. miscellanea [This message has been edited by miscellanea (08-06-2004 12:55 AM).] |

Earth Angel, I'm glad you liked it. I've had writer's block lately until Jo posted her birdie poem. It brought this to mind. It's amazing to me how we all feed off an other's writing, although my take on the birds, totally different than hers. Thanks for your sweet comment Missy passing shadows, My exact thoughts about you, dear Dixie! I don't feel that way about writing at all, but I appreciate your kindess. It's nice to see ourselves from the windows othes view us from... Thank you very much Dixie for your fine compliment. It means a lot. miscellanea |

Thank heavens no sparrows died, I would have cried. I love the idea of diversification and integration Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |
