Freed from colds invasion by burning,
Fat within a stove-heavy coat:
The great bear stands on the ice of the pole
Where wind-music plays septentrion notes,
Freezing the hair on his face, his throat
Stained red with the blood of a seal.
*
Endless seas of light, even at midnight
But stars are visible; straight up
Above the flow is Ursus Major,
Shaped by human eyes into a dipper...
Standing far south, without a sextant,
I judge the angled, slant of bias
At forty five degrees.
*
And I wonder...
*
As the seal meat and blubber,
Find ultimatums, does the feeling
Of full bring the white bear contentment?
Does it circle dog-like, 'round and 'round
Its icy tick to find a place of comfort
In the chilly down, of snow that's constant?
How quickly is it felled by sleep delirium?
*
Do its muscles twitch and tremor as it plods
Through ursine mysteries, fighting human monsters
That raise their arms to spear him;
Are his dreams perplexed and haunted
By the likes of men like me?
*
Far south, beneath different stars:
I write these words, (warmed)
By oak-wood fire, typing on a screen
By pulses through a plastic pipe,
That's filled with man made carbon...
*
Under a captured sun, I write of bears
Myself, dead seals, and ponder meanings
Of faint stars whose light falls down
From cosmic ceilings; and understand
How animate, and still life beings
Are often seen as spirit guides.
*
end

That was very unique, I liked it alot. I wish I could find something to critique, but every thing was fine. The words flowed nicely and the imagery and empathy was fantastic. The Empathy put great mood in the poem.

Do faint stars fall?
I know bright ones do...

Or do stars just rise again
in another galaxy?

I do so enjoy the pen of you.
