Over a quarter of my life gone by
all in the blink of an eye.

I remember it started when I was small
my heart started to take the fall.
Mother leaving me as a child
feelings confused; gone wild.
In school; picked on as a kid
keeping quiet, never blowing my lid.
The romance of my feelings
thrown away; like unwanted dealings.

I stood tall; first time in my life
I felt good taking a wife.
Doing great, feeling proud
not seeing the wickedness in her shroud.
Tearing my heart asunbder
my soul feling the thunder.

I dust myself off once more
reaching for the handle of my door.
I dry my eyes, wipe the tears
settling my own worst fears.
Swallowing hard, holding my heart
I don't want to be torn apart.

I think for a while I'll stand alone
my feelings, my thoughts turned to stone.

I'll just watch the next quarter go by
Maybe I'll see it if I don't blink my eye.

Indeed it is scary how quickly life rolls on.
I used to joke about the year 2000 how old I would be, 33 positively ancient. I am 32 now and don't feel ancient.

Love the poem, you have to sit back and assess it all from time to time

Wow! I'm only a teenager and i feel your pain, like i was actually experiencing it! I especially like the lines:
"I think for a while I'll stand alone.
my feelings, my thoughts turned to stone."

I loved it!!! keep it up!

Isis...it is kinda funny to think that 2000 was so far off and now it is only around the corner.....no offense...you got me beat by a couple years :~}
You are probly like a fine wine
and as for myself
I feel like a wrinkled prune. (haha)

Star...just remember that these lines are only for a few minutes in the time of a quarter century, and not to feel like stone forever.

"I think for a while I'll stand alone.
my feelings, my thoughts turned to stone."

Thanks for the reply

Great poem. It is something how quickly life keeps going when your knocked down and feel like you're falling farther and farther behind.

Life indeed passes us by without notice. It is what we make of our lives that counts. I enjoyed reading your poem.

Well, Deverone,
I'm probably over half way through mine...and all in the very same blink.
Don't stand "alone" too long, though a little time might be good. Just my two cents.

I think that this sums it all up. . .

"Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and take a look around once in while, you could miss it. . . "

Beautiful Deverone. . .
