THE MANNEQUIN Daily they walk by my window, A few of them stop to peek in. Holding pose in flourescent glow, I watch the world, a mannequin. Some offer a smile at my clothes, Some, though, seem to think them absurd. But no-one out there really knows The power of the spoken word. For I feel good with offered praise, But when they laugh I want to cry. Still, in this life of window displays, Who pays attention to the eye? For I see young couples holding hands. I see bums asking for spare change. As everyone passes like slipping sands, Oblivious to each other, it's strange. The businessman straightening his tie. The soccer mom running way late. The teenager with a fresh black eye, The drug addict again tempting fate. Everybody seems to be in a hurry. There's always somewhere they'd rather be. Day by day, I watch them pass in flurry, While the nights are a slow misery. And I often wonder who's has it worse, Watching this mindless rat race they live. For most of them never see it's curse, Or share the love that's theirs to give. But who could know the pain I hold within. Just longing to be part of such. But then, what's life to a mannequin, Except a window I can't even touch? ------------------ Michael Anderson Loneliness isn't in being alone, Loneliness is alone in being. Michael, I like this one! ------------------ Yesterday is history, tomorrow just a mystery. And if today is good to me how could I ask for more? |

Wow, Michael... I don't think I'll ever look at a window display so casually again (and I certainly won't use my reflection in the glass to make "adjustments!" LOL) This is great... I like!! |

Michael...I wonder how many of us, even as children, have wondered about the mannequins? Very interesting idea and well written..... |

Unique perspective from a mannequin's point of view! So much truth to these words. Left me thinking! |

Thank you all for your comments. I've had such a writer's block of late, I have felt like a mannequin watching the world go by while screaming voicelessly on the inside. The warm replies mean much. Michael |

Michael, this one stirred me deeply. So many times I've wondered if that's the view from Alzheimer's patients or those who look but cannot speak. How powerful this message. I have printed it to take to an area nursing home for the care-takers to read. You sure broke the 'block' with this one. *The mannequin *smiles*. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

At some point in our lives, we are all mannequins. Well done. |

I've been writing from a dummy's point of view most of my life! This is excellent, Michael. |

Michael, This is fantastic. I would venture to say that many passions poets will begin getting tossed out of stores for talking to the mannequins. If I may say so, I look rather good in a white coat. It's the straps that I'm not fond of. -RS |

Life in plastic ain't so fantastic. I have often wondered would they like to be stared at, if they could think? Writer's block? You? I doubt it!! ![]() ![]() ------------------ The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there IS to celebrate. ~Isis~ (Daughter of Mystery) |
