Generation X

As you hear people talk today,
They say teenagers respect has gone away.
They say we’ve all gone down the crapper,
By listening to that lame city rapper.

Just for you to understand,
A better life is what we demand.
The majority of us don’t listen to rap,
And agree with you, it’s a bunch of crap.

I do have to admit, we do tend to be,
Always glued to a chair in front of the T.V.
Unlike the Stone Age, we’re into technology,
But that doesn’t mean we don’t deserve an apology.

The way that you treat us every day,
Isn’t fair to us and is not okay.
The majority or us try to help out the earth,
But all that you think is that we’re giving birth.

The stuff you see on the news,
Is a bunch of people singing the “need a life blues”.
We are at home trying to study,
While the others are out fighting with their buddy.

You never hear all the good stuff we do,
Because you think we’re the proud and the few.
I’m not alone, and don’t think I am,
There are a lot of us out there, and we don’t eat Spam.

I can’t wait for you all to see,
Some of us helping the world on T.V.
You all think that we’re extinct like the Tyrannosaurus Rex,
But don’t worry, just call us Generation X.

Hey yanno what? I have more often than not met an awesome teenager. I own an espresso bar and the kids (for the most part) are AWESOME that come into my shop!
I think you guys just need to keep on keeping on and never give up, cuz the ones who will listen will..and the jerks who don't give a rip never will....prove the naysayers wrong and grow up to be something enviable!
Kudos on bringing up a really interesting matter that needs to be thought through thoroughly!

I really liked your poem. I hate rap too. Teenagers are sometimes branded with being lazy and wallowing in their own pits of depression.

Just one thing though generation x is largely seen as the slacker movement which was about being lazy and wallowing. Though things like generation x they seem to me like a movement people want to be part of so that they feel that they fit in...the same with punks, goths etc. Just be yourself first, refuse to be type cast and pigeonholed.

Still maybe I am ranting, trailing of point. I will shut my big mouth now.
really liked the poem.
