Lucidity

You close your eyes and call his name,
But it's my face you see.
You wrap your poisons in a flame,
Your voodoo cast on me.
I stand above your every thought,
Your gifts lay at my feet.
Lo, I am Darkness, ever wrought
To watch sweet Love deplete.

I hold the matrass to my lips
Drink of the distilled blood.
Feeling Hope spilling in drips,
I bear Emotion's flood.
You scream and twist in agony,
Give the stranger his due.
But still, the eyes of Misery,
Are only met by you.

Your prayers lay dead at the alter,
The perfect sacrifice.
Betrayed by the dream, you falter,
And now you pay the price.
Your pen, a sharp double edged blade,
Has left you there to bleed.
With every self-righteous prayer laid
Before me born of need.

I am no God, I'm no Master,
No totem bears this face.
Nor I the die or the caster
Of Pride, nor of Disgrace.
Nor am I the answer to Pain,
Nor am I her reward.
Nor will I walk in your disdain,
‘Twas you who drew the sword.

I am but the shadow of Night,
Who, there, might know my touch?
Am I to smite the hand of delight,
To dare the scorn of such?
Am I to forego the one light
That love in me reveals...
To wallow in submissive plight,
The very wounds she heals.

Wonderful outpouring of bitterness and Darkness. Sometimes our pen must dip into that well of bitterness or it will overflow us.

Michael, I read this in awe and wonder - - I don't even know what to say that would do this piece justice...I know you poured your heart & soul into it, as you do all your poetry. Fabulous read, and with so much emotion, it's dripping off my monitor !!!

Betrayed by the dream is very poignant to
me. To watch sweet love deplete.
This is one I've read twice...it is an
avalanche of bitterness. Well done.

Michael you are truly talented. Beautiful work as always...I am glad I decided to venture into the dark place in Passion. I have found some wonderful work thus far...and I look forward to so much more.

Am I to smite the hand of delight?
No say I, it may take flight
With no healing realized
Leaving one so traumatized.
Light flees...

Awesome, M. I expected nothing short of that.
