I hear the screams and cries of men,
The battle cries of young soldiers,
Explosions from affar,
My heart echoing in my head,
The sounds of war.

I see men dressed in armor,
Fighting for honor and pride,
Axes, swords, bows, and shields,
And death from affar,
The sight of war.

I smell the sweet of nervous men,
The fumes from the fires,
And the worst stench of all,
The aroma of death,
The smells of war.

I am scared,
I looked at my friend,
Behind him stands death,
My eyes fill with tears,
Because death hit his mark.

I am now angry,
No longer am I scared,
The bloodlust had taken control,
As I faced death,
Head to head.

There is no honor in war,
No glory,
No reward,
Just pain and suffering,
And DEATH.

I agree my friend, and is there not also this war waging within us all now?
Is not death standing behind us next?
Defeat this icon in life, and lay down your sword, and shine the light.
Joel.

"Cry havic and repeap the dogs of war" or something like that.  he he
Anyway, there is no shame in dieing, but shame does come if one dies for the wrong reason.  War? Why is it necesary? Who knows, no joy comes to either side yet we feel the need to continue this rampage in our fragile human state.  May God one day show us the errors in our way.  Yet for some reason I don't think this peom may be about war directly, I just can't seem to put my fingure on it though.

There's a peace inside us all
Let it be your friend
It will help you carry on
In the end
There's a peace inside us all

Yes, and the pain never goes away from loss,
but emotions can be honored in poetry such as yours and others who remember. The worst death is to not be remembered.
great work

There is nothing good in war. Death and Descruction Reign within.  I agree with Joel's reply completely

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, not the kindly smile, not the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship."

--Ralph Waldo Emerson
