Starrgazer, I couldn't help but notice you mention "Alone" by Edgar Allan Poe as one of your favorite poems in the "Feelings" forum. I wanted to share this poem with you - I wrote as a direct to that poem as I found it so powerful. EAP has definately been the biggest influence on me as a writer. I hope you enjoy this. WALKING ALONE I, too, was born of a world not the same, Amongst white snow, a raindrop's shame. In life's garden, a dormant seed. A heart held of dissimilar need. I, too, was awed by lightning's flash, Embering in mind even after the crash. Followed closely by silent rain, Blood-red, falling from the sky in vain. The wind chimed and the earth shook from thunder, And my mind was but befixed to wonder... How could I stand amidst this storm, Seek shelter not, yet still seem warm? But I, too, take my sorrow at a site Other souls would nonchalantly slight. And I, too, have felt the need for love, But could only love that need which I dreamt of. And as I peered deep through the skies, The clouds grew black to shut my eyes. The demon that came in your view, Now's taken from me what he took from you. In the garden the seed has sprang, A nameless child unearths the pang. Felt for the flower, both eyes in close. Took twenty thorns to touch the rose. A wondering mind looked to the sky, So beautiful it had to die. Laid it to rest upon the stone, And turned away a man full grown. Singing the same song at a different tone, In thoughts, destined to die, unknown. Born unto a world not of our own, We've walked together, walking alone. Michael R. Anderson 1/90 Response to: "ALONE", by Edgar Allan Poe ALONE Edgar Allan Poe [1829] From childhood's hour I have not been As others were- I have not seen As others saw- I could not bring My passions from a common spring- From the same source I have not taken My sorrow- I could not awaken My heart to joy at the same tone- And all I lov'd- I lov'd alone- Then- in my childhood- in the dawn Of a most stormy life- was drawn From ev'ry depth of good and ill The mystery which binds me still- From the torrent, or the fountain- From the red cliff of the mountain- From the sun that 'round me roll'd In its autumn tint of gold- From the lightning in the sky As it passed me flying by- From the thunder, and the storm- And the cloud that took the form (When all the rest of Heaven was blue) Of a demon in my view. I should have just highlighted both of them...each line was more perfect than the next.I'm glad you shared this for those of us who had not seen it. take care, jm ...when you walked into the room, I saw their faces, you made it feel like time was standing still...and I felt fascination... then you turned and smiled in my direction... and my heart...gave me away. glass tiger |

Michael, this poem was truly fabulous! Thanks for sharing it I've thought to myself many times that your poems sort of echo with the feel of EAP. You definately have a great talent and you use it so well!! I can hardly wait until the next newsletter comes out your poems intrigue me and it will be great to learn of the person behind the poems! Thanks again for sharing, I enjoyed it immensely.< !signature--> Mystical being which makes ink flow Surround me in your incandescent glow Fill my brain with thoughts and rhyme As I try to capture but a moment in time ~Shan~ [This message has been edited by StarrGazer (edited 04-06-2000).] |

Breathtaking Michael *sigh* I've read it a couple of times... you paint when you write my friend. One day you'll have to write me something equally as beautiful, you've never written me a poem, I've written you one!! Beautiful Michael, a true loving and poetic heart have you!! There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self... ~Isis~ (Goddess - Sovereign of the Spirit) |

Janet, I was sure you'd relate well to both of these poems. StarrGazer, yep - Poe has been my favorite since I was 15 years of age. He actually inspired my fisrt "real" poem. I consider a great honor that any of my works would remind you of him. James, I wish I could agree with you - but I can't. I didn't choose these feeling I have. I felt the at my earliest ages. I remember "knowing" I was didderent at 5 years old... I didn't understand it then, and honestly don't now. I merely accept it - though I never chose it. Isis, I will write something just for you very soon - promise Irish Rose, I just want to say thank you and welcome to Passions. I'm so glad you enjoyed this work. I apologize for not answering your email - I've been out of twon for the past three days as my step father just passed away. Everyone, thank you for your kind replies. I will probably be gone for much of the next week so don't be too hard on Isis while I'm gone....LOL michael |

Michael, what can I say? There could be no better response. If this isn't poetry that speaks directly from the soul of human to human relation, I don't know what is! Fantastic! Joy |
