Blind Lying in the dark My only company the skeletal sound of tree limbs scraping against the window Huddled on a worn couch with tears of shame coursing down my cheeks Drawing a searing trail straight to my heart My mind reels from the devastation of realization The cursed blindness that prevented me from seeing the obvious The pain caused by a misspoken word Self doubt gnaws at me but I have to let go And I learn I will face tomorrow stronger and wiser with the knowledge that I am fallible © 2/11/00 by Gary Pence Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night. -Edgar Allen Poe |
