Every day I live my sad existance
because my father whom I love so dear
depends on what hurts him
more than any weapon can ever do
the alcohol that he craves like air
slowly destroys his life
destroying the family who loves him
but he does not care
for the drink is all he ever loves
I said nothing until this day
and he responded with utmost prejedace
he believes that I have nothing to say
about what he does with his life
but he could never understand
how much it hurts me inside
but the pain will never show
because he does not care how I feel
so I will live in the sadness
of my father's nightmare forever...

LS...I am sorry, I know this pain first hand...growing up with this in my house as well...you have my understanding and compassion...the poem is tradgicly beautiful with your emotions.
take care friend, jm

 and you can say baby...
baby can I hold you tonight
maybe if told you the right words...
at the right time,
you'd be mine...
baby can I hold you tonight...

So sad for you hon, I had an alcoholic uncle, he changed, he was ill, ruined, everything!!  He died in a pub drowned in his own vomit.  Perhaps you should tell your father about him.  *hugs* from one who understands..

LS I too understand this pain was not my father but another very close family member who chose to drink his life away and its so hard to sit and idly watch  knowing that anything you do say  or concern you express is ignored and gone unheeded Great emotions expressed here

I liked the style of this poem...I have come to the conclusion that most people addicted to alcohol or drugs are very selfish people that don't seem to care about the fact that the alcohol is not only destroying them but also the people around them that are also affected by the consequences of their actions.   I hope for the best for you and your family.  James
