DECAY

I stop and look at the playground -
Where, once, two lovers used to play.
A blemished elegance, quite profound,
A miasma of righteous decay.

Truth, first to fall, lies in the gutter,
Faith, buried somewhere in the sand.
Where every malicious lie you utter -
Softly pleads for me to understand!

Hope is dancing in the cobwebs -
Of silky spun memory.
While a tide of Darkness slowly ebbs -
Away all you once meant to me.

And echoes of Love may still remain,
But honor is the price we pay;
To hold each other through the pain,
Choosing to look the other way.

If Love holds Virtue, Justice quells,
If Pride - arrogant, feel my shame.
If Time - precious, the past foretells -
My love may never know the same.

I would rather rot in the shadows,
Given, alone, a silent death.
Then smell the sweet scent of a rose -
Tainted by lies upon thy breath.
