I wrote this villanelle formy grandmother's funeral a year ago - it was read at the graveside service Sleep Softly Now Sleep softly now, we will not weep. Death is a temporary thing ; Your love stays with us - go to sleep. Although our sense of loss is deep, To precious memories we'll cling. Sleep softly now, we will not weep. There is a legacy we keep, A gift to others we can bring; Your love stays with us - go to sleep. We know death's victory is cheap, It cannot bind your spirit's wing. Sleep softly now, we will not weep. For Heaven's rich rewards you'll reap, With angel choirs you will sing. Your love stays with us - go to sleep. In joy you'll wake with Christ the King, His mercy can defeat death's sting. Sleep softly now, we will not weep; Your love stays with us - go to sleep. |

thank you shadows and brad...well, it meant to be just that, a lullaby, for her last eternal sleep |

thank you everyone for reading and taking the time to comment on this - it is very special to me as my grandma was the most important person in my life, I feel her loss daily.I only hope she liked it...I am sure she heard it |
