Inspired by William Murdock Tackett...my Grandfather. I never saw him...but now I feel I know him far better from what he wrote. Grandfather, grandfather, your heart does bleed. Lonely, so lonely, a son you do need. The times are hard, and your worries so deep. Lie back Grandfather, rest now and just sleep. He loves you, admires you, inspires you too. He wants you, desires you, this need is true. His days are long, his nights lonely and cold. Your strong arms he needs, to touch and to hold. Grandfather, grandfather, this war,so long, It will pass some day, be patient, be strong. A son will return, be with you again, God willing, I know this will be his plan. The land is cold, so desolate and bleak, the floors are bare, their wooden and they creak. A sailor’s home away from those he missed as steam did leak, and a valve slowly hissed. Oh father I know you did miss your Dad as much as he would or he ever had. You both sired your sons to carry your name a word so proud, shared by all just the same. The war finally ended and sons returned. They gave it their all, they fought and they learned. The smiles and cheers echoed across the miles with memories kept of cold lonely isles. |

Barry, this was the kind of poem that really touches me because I know it is straight from your heart. I'm sure your grandfather and father would have felt so proud to read this! ......jo |
