I'd Like to Pass Tonight |

Sitting here tonight, I got to thinking... About the life I lead, and what I own. And realize that fifty years are wasted, And basically, in life, I walk alone. Yes, I guess I know a lot of people, But I'm amazed how few of them know me- And most would never guess, I'm still a drifter- And in my heart's a longing to run free. What do I want? I guess I want a mountain- A challenge for this fool to try to climb. Or maybe just a world of my own making- Exisiting only in my lines of rhyme. A world where there can be no sick, nor taxes- And courage still can name it's own reward. And none would taste the death brought on by aging- But fighting men would all die by the sword. And damsels would be fair, and there aplenty- And wit and humor there, would be so droll... And comrades on the road, there would be many, And there would be no lack of gleaming gold. Death? It holds no fear; I would invite it- For none has held it's fetid breath at bay... But still, till my last gasp, I'd try to fight it, I trust that I would be no easy prey. If I could have most anything, I'd wish for- I'd like to pass tonight, while I'm asleep, And think I'd leave a single friend to miss me- And p'raps I'd leave a single maid to weep. |

Gunslinger -- Your poetry should be preserved! I have never read one of yours that I simply did not savor, this one being no exception. And, I wish for you that your wishes are granted! ...jo |
