Withdrawal

Friday night, it's 2am
and I can't sleep for wanting you.
I long to hear your voice,
to feel you touch my heart
across the windswept miles
with your tender words' caress.

In only days I've come to need
your voice to lull me on to slumber.
The promise deep inside your words
whispers warm against my cheek,
sends shivers like memories
up and down my spine,
strokes me sweetly into sleep.

I have loved you for so long;
your absence from my life
left an open aching wound
deep inside my heart.
I learned to cover it up
with another life, other loves.
I told myself those feelings
were buried in the past,
but the pain of loss persisted,
a dull humming throb on the edges
of my most secret dreams.
I tried to send it into the shadows
where all my painful memories live,
but it would not be ignored for long.

Now you've come back into my life,
an unexpected gift with perfect timing.
Your presence is a healing balm
to close the aching wound
that has echoed through my life.
I don't know just why you've come,
what it is you hope to gain.
I only know I need you now
and Monday is too far away.

loved the line
"a dull humming throb on the edges
of my most secret dreams"

can't figure out why there are not more comments on this one...it is very good...let's bump it back to the top...

I never slept well, but for a year and a half  there was a boy... yeah, every night when I would talk to him I could sleep. And one night he slept on the floor beside my bed, holding my hand. It usually takes me at least three hours to fall asleep, that night it took five.
(you reminded me of the story, so I had to tell!)
Anyway, on my Monday he never showed up.
I'm excited to see that he's back for you
But yeah, the withdrawal is horrible!

Always, Alyssa
