Firefly I saw it once and not again though I can see it now, one small and unapologetic burst, one bubble of drifting light as it arrayed the darkness of a breath warm evening, and for that moment I was not alone. One light, one time and then no more though I looked and waited, yet somehow that smallest flare completed something deep, a hollowing down inside there that I hadn’t known about; or maybe it was a simple need for something to come just there, just then, just as it happened to be. I’ve heard they’re gone by daylight but I hope it wasn’t so. I hope it lived that night, flashed again somewhere and found its own. Such beauty should, you know; it ought to last for longer than one spark, one single night. It really, really ought to last. |

RatL., It is so good to hear you! You bring such imagery to the blue. No fireflies here yet, but the trillium is in bloom. (Can't believe I misspelled trillium and had to edit. I guess that's what happens when one is tired.) I love this. Another trip to the library. You're going to wear me out! Especially liked the first stanza. No fireflys here at all, ever...they don't live west of the mountains. Tonight I was just thinking about some things like fireflys, and remembering. I do envy you that trillium... They grow here but I don't have 'em, and at this time of year I miss that gentle blue in the morning almost as much as I miss fireflys. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

My cousins don't have them in some of the southern states either-I guess we're just lucky. Please excuse my earlier reference if you read it. I got you confused with someone else, but in re-reading found I had addressed the wrong person. Sorry!!! If you think this is bad, you should see how I am with remembering faces! The Pits! Ed...you want fireflys...we give your fireflys. Get on a plane mid-July and come back to Missouri for a visit. We have an extra bedroom. Bring your lovely wife. |

Such beauty should, you know; it ought to last for longer than one spark, one single night. It really, really ought to last. How poignantly you've captured the magical moments that touch our lives... and the hole left in our hearts when mundane rules again. The only thing that keeps this from being heartbreaking in its longing is the knowledge that such beauty does last... for those who pause to really see... and for those who read your words. *S* This is stunning, dear friend... excellent write! |

I hope you do, Martie. I truly hope you do get to see that light. There's magic in it, you know. The real kind, that doesn't depend on spells or cards or tricks of crowd control psychology. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> ______________Ratleader______________ |

Just stopped in for a second reading(actually more because I read it several times each stop)! I love the gentle rhyme in this and assonance. The imagery is superb. I find I missed your birthday. Firing this back up. Happy belated birthday! Sadie |
