The Builder

While the thump of a hammer is music to me,
And the smell of new wood is complete ecstacy,
When I take to a pen to compose of my toil,
Well the words will not come, and it makes my blood boil.

I can hang all the sheetrock a bedroom can use,
And I’ll get it all taped for I’ve well paid my dues.
As for wiring a lamp or just adding a socket,
I can tackle a house and there’s no one will mock it..

If you bring me your plumbing with plug or with leak.
I can fix it so dandy and clean it will squeak.
So don’t tell me of love and of hearts that have splattered,
While I sit here to tell you of things that have mattered.

Give me blueprints and mortar, I’ll build anything.
But dear muse, would you help me? Please make my words sing.
I just weep as I read here of rainbows and sunshine.
For I never will learn how to make all this fun mine.

And it’s not that I’m needing a muse who can nag,
For she’ll just give me grief; say I’m surely no wag.
To epistle my labors to a friend I find warming,
But to say them in rhyme?  There’s no words I am forming.

Ken

After sunshine, can I hire you?  Your poem made me smile, as usual.  Thanks for that.  Now, quit working so heard and go out and enjoy the beauty of nature...then write a poem about it.  (or not)

I know this feeling well ~~ don't we all! On the other hand, I've found that a muse is a bit like a garden. There'll be weeds, but it pretty much gives back the kinds of things we've sown in it.

I think I'll plant a row of Kayjay in mine.
