Listening to every heart

Traditions and Rituals

quote:
It was said
that if you saw an eagle
while you were praying …
your prayers
would be answered.
Some tribes believed
that the eagle carried prayers
directly to the great creator.

Excerpt from Native Americans and Eagles

Through ceremony,
no pomp, no circumstance,
just belief
in one bird calling to another,
the duck flute played nimbly,
seriously, with great regard…

as prayers thumped in heartbeat time

to me came Eagle,
traditions,
rituals of time circumferenced,
in circumspect,
for I, the outsider,
welcomed, still,
caution
kept the bird away,
until I fell into

the prayer atone

and saw mine

taken to the skies…

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back

Thanks for the rich taste of another culture.  Love the visuals.

I recently had a fascinating conversation with a man who shared with me of his native culture.  All I can say is what a beautiful expression of his faith he has.
He sang a prayer for a group of volunteers and he told me after that when he prays, he always prays as though it were his last prayer because a person never knows if when their time will come. Anyway...you reminded me of this man that I met
