The fallen and the dead collect on the ground their term of office over until the time is right to scatter to the corners behind where I can’t see and deliver a message I’m not allowed to hear. Secrets are in the air and leaves don’t have a care as happily they lift at the behest of the wind in a plot to overthrow summer’s expected glow and make the bare and barren a permanent feature. But plans of permanence fall short of their desire in the circle of needs circulating like the seasons for always it’s a need that forces change to be and always it’s a need that creeps up from behind. Behind where I can’t see someone pushes from the rear but trapped I stand immobile waiting for the glow to stir the fire of passion to heights not ever known and clear away the rubble of my despondency. The fallen and the dead collect on the ground, I know how they feel; I’m a comrade I believe together and entwined until death do us part to scatter, merely scatter, with secrets into air. The message we deliver you’re not allowed to hear which defeats the object of the comradeship of leaves to fall and lie as dead, to blow away at will, and return again upon the trees beautiful and strong. But I heard how they whisper, giggle, snicker, laugh, in the autumn and winter of dead and fallen minds on the ground entwined with humanoid features seeking so for permanence in a changing world. And I heard the secret but I lost it somewhere, somewhere behind a corner where I cannot see! Helen – and this fits in so well with a peculiar phrase in my country – “yes, well, no, fine” – I think it just means … what it says! |

Is this a mesage to Helen all along? an epitaph o her? I am unclear about how to interpret the last stanza together with the rest. The imagery here is quite nice though.. |

No - was just signing my name and explaining that I'm perhaps writing rubbish. It ends with "hearing" the secret but can't "see" it - and that seems like rubbish to me. Thanks for the read. |

Rubbish -- maybe, maybe not -- I tend to think you did hear something. Enjoyed the read very much, Honeybunch. ![]() |

Thanks jo! Yes, maybe I did hear but no one would believe me anyway so it's there behind the corner. I developed one day a liking for corners - they open up so much when you've turned them. |
