All I Ever Wanted

He fit nicely between two dichotomies
I thought, on one hand,
recalling cold handshakes
followed by pretentious
praise the Lord smiles
that left bold question marks
behind my faith.

Then changing hands,
I recalled my endless encounters of
once in my lifetime
how’d ya dos.

"Putting aside ego,"
he remarked,
"I discovered authenticity."

And I was there with him,
seeing myself in the
green serene of his eyes,
in uncolored reflection
for he would not judge me.

Yet, I could not keep myself from
questioning him,
inspecting closely the
fine chisel of his mind.

An old soul or new breed?
A clever reproduction or
Off the wall art?

I wanted so not to doubt his philosophies,
to accept him as he was...

to accept him as he accepted himself...

and me.

But he made no demands.
And that, perhaps
is all I ever wanted.

I really enjoyed this and the way the words worked together to create the image.

It is always so nice when one is wanted
simply for who they are, never what they
are or what they have...  Hello Patricia,
