Sunshine and I decided to write a duet in a somewhat different form than usual. I would write a poem to two of her pics and she would write a poem to two of mine. This is the result

photo by Titia, poem by Sunshine

The age of which way, like thoughts
In one’s brain, should I reach out,
Or lower myself, or…
Reach for the sky?  Go towards the light?

The tangle of id, ego, super-ego argue, while roots
Run deep, setting off underground shoots
Like fireworks, springing life forth,
Going towards the light.

Time rings within me, leading all from one
Season to another, while capturing my depth,
That I should give life, and breath, even
Sheltering some from storms.

In the age of
Which way shall I turn?

What you see is lonely me
Sitting here all by myself
And I hear you thinking
How sad it must be
Not having friends around
No one to talk to
No gossip going 'round'
and no giggling over stupid things
And you might be right
But then…
You could be wrong you know
Could be that I need such moments
for myself
far away from obligatory talk
listening to nature's voice
of silence
You'll never know
Untill you ask
and then
in understanding
be my friend forever
I'm always yours you know

And in turning, finding a road,
Lined in ever green, paved one way,
The only way for some,
And it beckons…

There is, always will be, light all around us,
For some, a center point;
For others, a bathing of dreams;
But always the light
To show us the way,

In untangling
id, ego, and super-ego.

Growing
means peeling off used skin
when it's becoming too tight
changing inside and out
Any creature is changing form
when growing
even people, you're surprised?
but we don't peel our skin literally
unless you got an ugly sunburn
We're peeling our skin
metaphoric
we don't throw it away
just put it aside in our mind
and close the door
But sometimes
the growing stops
when we open old doors
using used skins
and we will look like those birches
charming, sometimes
confused and frayed, more often
until we find the door
to that empty room
in wich we can grow once more.

Thank you Sunshine, it was such a pleasure working with you

You two, great job!  And this was such a good metaphor for self growth!  Enjoyed it very much!  (Sunshine....I'm thinking about that challenge.....think I have to be in the right frame of mind, but it will come.)

Just wonderful, both of you, what a pleasure it is to see through your eyes.

Titia, your idea of writing to one another's photography was exceptional in so many ways.  First, it gave me an insight to you, in following you through the camera, that I have tried to grasp before, but was never asked to put into words.

Then, you did.

What an awesome experience.  And what you did to the photos I sent you...my gosh...yes, it is SUPPOSED to be about self, and reflection, but the honesty that is exposed is magnificent...but...

isn't that poetry, after all?

Your photography, my friend, makes me wish I could stand beside you when you snap the button.

I will visit you one day.  I promise.

And you are always welcome to Kansas.

Thanks friends for all your nice comments.

Karilea, don't underestimate yourself, your photos are very beautiful, all I did was framing them, but you had the eye to capture the moment.

It was so surprising to see how you turned my photos into your words and it was a pleasure to write to yours. Doing so one has to open up one's heart and let feelings come out and then choose wich direction they will flow.

It was an honour dear friend and you are always welcome to wander through my land.

Fantastic!  My friend, who teaches English, decided to do a poetry unit with her students.  I think, in part, because I was so excited about the idea because she said she has always been sort of "scared" to do poetry.  One of the exercises she required was that students choose pictures from a news source and write a poem.  Ahhh...what a wonderful exercise.  I really must direct her to your unit.

I love this!

Patricia, this was Titia's idea, but I fell right in like with it - it's a wonderful way to really get to know someone else.  I hope you DO pass this on to the English Teacher...

All of this is so inspired.   The combining of talents...words and pictures...and the challenge of interpreting each other's images was a pleasure to experience. Thank you Titia and Karilea.

Thank you, everyone.  To take another poet's photography and make it yours with your own thoughts/words IS what sharing is all about.  I am so grateful to Titia for spanning the globe as she did, reach out, and touch mine as well.

She is most certainly a poet worthy to duet with any of you....

So give me something to look forward to!

I often wonder what came first in this world: the vision, or the words to describe it.  Well, either way, you gave birth to them both you two in great form.
