Sew me from my mothers fabric Sew me tough so I might last. Needle me some, but don't let me snap Sew me loose with no wide gaps Ginger me from family quilt Spice me soft its velvet shapes. Needle me some, but give rhyme its breathing space Cross stitch my simple life in place Quilt me in your cover Seam me in what seems; Do with me whatever flying carpets do in dreams Fly me into space! Fly me away from earth hurt screams Above all the broken schemes; Thread me along antique cotton Then silk me a breathing song Let carpet tassels taste the wind. (then just bring me home again to cross stitch o and x.) [This message has been edited by Sadelite (06-05-2004 07:32 PM).] |

I'm glad you like it, Jo. Does this remind you of all of Mom's fabric? Did you ever see the velvet quilt from the 1800's that was started but unfinished? I've often wanted to write of that quilt, but just can't seem to focus only on it! For some reason magic carpet rides seem more fun! Cathy |

My wife quilts all the time . . . she'll love this. Me too - not the quilting though, yet - but fixing to start designing some. jwesley |

the patience she must have and the jewels she shapes with every stitch! And you design them? What a team! Glad to hear of your enjoyment! Have a great weekend. Sadie |

Sadie...a few years ago I wrote this...since you shared yours, I'll share mine with you... Needling Thoughts Silence surrounds the seamstress As she seams opening passages Then steams the seams open And carves a curve In linen, wool or silk Fingers dipping in fabric like A cat lapping warm milk Then to relax she lays Her silk-soft fabric aside Takes up her needlepoint And her thoughts flash As the yarn whips and rides In and out, in fevered dash Till embroidered lays A silken sash In candlelight, all pretties done She picks up socks to darn In and out the needle flies As grandpa spins a yarn But in her world, her Silent world, her fingers Used to the knit and purl Around her silent, awesome thoughts Her threading threads around in whirls She is already in tomorrow Her thoughts bypassing Yesterday’s sorrows Her thoughts fly south Then north again Wondering if she’ll see him ~ and where ~ and when Sweethearts’ Day will be here soon And on golden beam of moon She’ll cast a lone lover’s wish Among the breezing leaves that swish A tear falls down porcelain cheek She stitches at a heart in pink On a pillow to catch the tear For she cannot lay aside her fear And with each stitch She says a prayer In hopes her words Are not threadbare “God, save the souls That give their all They’ve gone to war They’ve answered the call Now bring them home Safe, and sound,” And in her stitch Her words are bound For in many ways will lay one’s poetry By written word, or 1863 tapestries. Now, they're stitched together... |

My grandma used to spend all her time in the sewing room working on quilts. I would come in next to her and we'd work together. For hours we'd cut, sew, and lay out the blocks until the quilt was finished. I remember the last one she made, it was one with all the sample blocks from all the years. It was supposed to be sold for her Missionary Society, and someone bought it to give to me. I have her sewing machine, now. Only sewn a couple quilts with it, but just looking at it brings back the memories of sitting with family, completely content. God knew what he was doing when he had us invent the needle and thread. This is excellent, Sadie, and as you can see it brought back a lot of memories. Good ones though, so thank you Always, Alyssa Poems are made by fools like me, |

I enjoyed each and every vision, and especially the ending, to cross stitch o and x - very clever and very much enjoyed. |

I really, really appreciate your comments. I've wanted to respond to each and every one of you, personalizing my comments, but my mind isn't very focused right now. After I wrote this, something happened to take my mind to a different-different dimension. My concentration is limited, but I did want everyone to know I appreciate the comments, and more important the poets and poetesses behind them. Sunshine, I so enjoy your poem. Thank you... love, cathy |

Some threads are treasures... this is definitely one. *S* Your poem is fantastic... and the thoughts shared in the responses make it even more special. *S* Of course... you did give me a twinge of guilt about my long-ignored projects. *G* But not enough to destroy the pleasure of your creation! *S* Hang in there, gal... and let me know if I can help? *S* |
