Down Sun River It was to be a golden summer, spent within strong arms of thick logs; air scrubbed by piney spires, evenings cooled by a burn’s breeze. Two families sharing time. 5.a.m. saw us packing sandwiches for fishing trips – mostly it was the men and kids, although once, Trish and I went: lines in water, feet hanging over dock’s end, minds on conversation, not fish. We didn’t catch a thing; but I took this photo of her hand holding a daisy, rocks and blue ripples in the background. The cabin had sixty wooded acres to explore and for children to pretend monsters hid in the pines, slipping from view just as shadowy movement catches the eye. Evenings saw us drinking and playing cards or listening to music or solving the world’s problems, while the kids played hide-and-go-seek in the loft or watched videos; falling asleep where they lay. On the day of our departure, we stood by our respective cars reluctant for summer to end. On impulse, Trish’s husband, Steve, ran behind the barn and dragged out the canoe; said he was going for one last run. |

"It was to be a golden summer, spent within strong arms of thick logs; air scrubbed by piney spires, evenings cooled by a burn’s breeze." Love this part Corrine. Summer stories are the best... |

Now, these are the free-est of verses... and braided memories... this was an easy "fall into" kind of poem, Corinne... and I hope you are more again, soon. |
