My Chivalrous Knight

Why have you sworn to protect me?
Even at the cost of death?
I have done nothing to deserve this loyalty.
Yet you pledge to keep me safe.

But if you are so valiant, why do you scream at the hint of fire?
Sometimes you are more vexatious than majestic.
Must you wail whenever my toast burns?
And whine if I light aromatic candles?

Still you save me when my world is burning down.
I commend you, gallant detector of smoke!
